Craft Show Selling

It's really not a simple task to man a booth at a craft show. You could decide to set up your booth and that's that; hoping that the simple presentation you've set up will be enough to attract customers like flies to honey. I must say that this attitude is similar to a disinterested hired help.

Of course, that's not what you're going to do once you get to a craft show. You'll need to be up and about as this is work in itself. Selling your crafts isn't comparable to fishing; instead, it's the same as luring a pet to trust you. Get their attention using the bait, and once you have built up their trust, convince them that taking the bait will be to their benefit.

So, what am I talking about? Simply put, always be on the alert for potential customers. When they go by your booth and show the slightest interest in your wares, then that is your cue. Approach them with a smile and start talking about your product.

This is one reason why it's best if you yourself sell your own crafts. Selling something you've made yourself will guarantee that there's a special bond between you and your item, and you'll find yourself talking about it more enthusiastically. It's much easier to convince people to buy your wares this way.

It is only fair to warn you against overdoing this sort of thing. So, what should you refrain from doing when talking to your customers, then?

*First of all, don't spill technical words on them. They want to appreciate the beauty, workmanship or quality of your art, not mimic it. So don't bother them with technical terms.

*Next, it's not all about you. Craftsmen are admired because of their skill and quality of work, not about the person himself. And finally,

*You're having a conversation, not giving a speech. Ask them questions, listen to their concerns, and have them ask questions, too. Have a dynamic conversation with them and be friendly, which may eventually lead to them purchasing your product. - 20761
